Yeah, Yeah, Yeah... I know - slacking on the tournament writeups. The nice thing about re-capping tournaments that happened three months ago is I can't remember shit, so this is gonna be short...
The standard 12 DDR members hooked up once again for bragging rights in the pivotal 3rd tournament. Katt had the bounty on his head after an impressive comeback win in tournament #2. After missing tournament #2, DoctorLove decided to employ his "skip the rebuy period" strategy and it ended up paying off huge.
MinMuth grabbed the deuce deuce bonus early in the evening, and after the rebuy period ended the prize pool was a healthy $680, with $272 going to the winner, and another $68 each for the champion prize pool and bounty. For the first time ever we nearly had a tripple-crown winner (1st place + bounty + deuce deuce bonus).
Let's get to the hands and the wrappup, as I don't recall much of the detail.
Busting 12th in a blaze of glory was Sunshine's Bitch. He took an interesting line with pocket kings and learned a valuable lesson. It's never a good idea to let five additional people see a flop when you're out of position with KK. MiniMuth busted him with A5 after seeing a cheap flop with an ace.
Next to fall was TheCanuck after being brutalized with AJ by Motown's J4s. Nobody told him that aces are only high in Canada.
The next bust was worthy of a standing ovation. With AJ Jodizzle decided to take a stand against big Coopzilla who was a clear leader for the league championship. He showed QQ which wasn't enough after 'dizzle caught an ace. Busting Coop 10th opened the door for the rest of the league to compete for the prize.
Somehow during all the ruckus and mayhem, DoctorLove had managed to win a few pots and become a force. He snapped off MiniMuth's bluff on a K high flop (Mini showing down AQ) with well-disguised pocket aces. Muth out 9th.
Dropping out in 8th was StillNotFat when Manwhore flopped three queens holding Q8. SNF turned over A5 on a failed bluff and was sent home.
My nemesis from the first two tournaments smelled blood when I pushed all in with AKs from early position after waiting three or four rounds for a hand. Jodizzle calls happily with KK and I don't connect on the three-outer. Cmoney out 7th.
Next out was the reigning monthly winner. Katt hooked up in a blood bath with Mojo KQ versus A3. My notes don't tell me any more than Mojo busted Katt in 6th and took down the $68 bounty.
Mojo would continue stomping opponents a few minutes later when his AKs took Motown's pocket fives to school. Motown out 5th.
With four players left everyone was now in the money. Mojo had already taken $68 bounty and everything else was gonna be gravy.
Soon after getting four-handed, Manwhore was picked apart on a bluff when DoctorLove played big-stack poker calling his all in with AT. No notes on this hand.
My nemesis would fall out in 3rd place with Mojo showing her the door. I have no detail on this hand or what happened.
I should note here that the lack of detail is mostly due to time spent in the cash game taking money from Sunshine's Bitch in some tripple-draw lowball and crazy pineapple. To all you aspiring poker players out there - you should never play a game for real cash when the rules have just been explained to you for the first time and you don't really "get it".
The heads-up battle proved to be fairly short. After a little back and forth the money got in with A4o versus JJ. Once again I didn't note any other details about this hand except for the fact that Mojo won the hand, taking down the biggest prize to date:
- Mojo: $272
- DoctorLove: $136
- Jodizzle: $81
- Manwhore: $54
In addition to the biggest 1st place prize ever awarded, Mojo took down the $68 bounty for a total $340 for the night. He was only a deuce deuce bonus away from taking down the tripple crown.
The points battle is really tight and there are at least six players who have a mathematical chance of taking down the league championship. Stay tuned, and I'll see everyone at the finale!
